How to make money blogging (Part 2)
#3 Reason You’re Not Making Money From Blogging – You didn’t add a way for folks to opt-in to your email list
The Number #3 Reason you’re not making money from blogging: you forgot to add a way for website visitors to opt-in to your email list. Email lists are super important especially if you’re looking for new business. For example, let’s say you meet a potential new customer at a networking event and you give them your business card (old school!) Then they actually go to your website to see if you’re legit and read your amazing blog post. Then…whoops…. they leave your site and forget about you, and you never get the chance to work together.
The reason why it’s important for potential clients to opt-in when they find your website or blog is because you want them on your email list so you can keep communicating with them. If anyone visits your website, your number one strategy is to have them opt-in to your email list. How can you do that? Now there’s a variety of ways to technically make this happen.
It depends on your email service provider, but basically, if you’re using a popular email marketing platform such as Mailerlite, MailChimp, ConvertKit or ActiveCampaign….this should be a simple process. Those are really popular email tools right now. You will need to connect your active email account to your actual website to make this process “work”.
Also, you need to offer something of value for FREE to get a potential customer to opt-in to your email list. For example, you could create a content upgrade or lead magnet “freebie”. This freebie could be a PDF, a checklist of some kind, case study, white paper, tutorial, etc. (For my content upgrade, I offer a 75+ tech toolkit of tools that you need to run your online business.) Once someone opts-in for your freebie… they’re automagically added to your list! Awesome, right?
#4 Reason You’re Not Making Money From Blogging – You didn’t add a strong call to action (CTA) to your website
Number four reason you’re not making money from your blog – you didn’t add a strong call to action (CTA) on your WordPress website.
Sometimes my clients would tell me, “Yeah, I need a website or I need a blog….but what am I going to say and how do I get started?” I think there’s a planning process that should happen BEFORE you even get started.”Plan Your Website Workbook” is a 50-page workbook that walks you through the website planning that you need to do before you actually start creating your blog.
Part of the planning is figuring out your Call To Action (CTA). What do you want a website visitor to DO when they go to your website? What does that process look like? Maybe you have a product or service that you can offer to your customers…you need a CTA to get a potential customer to take action now! You want them to DO something when they find your site. What does that look like?
I have a client who sells their products exclusively online and they give out FREE samples to try their product before they buy it. People can order a sample, they deliver the sample, and then they follow up for the sale. Brilliant, right?
If you’re more of an educational site, you could add a “LEARN MORE” button and offer a “sneak peak” of your course. You want them to be engaged and take action.
If you’re a coach or consultant, you could offer a free 15-minute or 20-minute or 30-minute consultation.
If you have a software or digital product, you could offer a free DEMO of your product. Just add a demo button to your website with a link to an online form. You can setup this process to be automated or have a sales support specialist actually walk a potential client through a demo of your product.
These are just a couple different ideas for adding a strong call to action (CTA) to your website or blog.
Take Action Now
What do you want someone to do when they find your website? What kind of CTA can you add? Brainstorm a couple ideas… and make it happen. Uplevel your online business and take action now!
